Who was Les Brown?

Lester Raymond "Les" Brown was an American saxophonist who led the big band "Les Brown and His Band of Renown" for nearly seven decades from 1938 to 2000 He made Doris Day a star, performed with Bob Hope for nearly 50 years, backed the Steve Martin Show and the Dean Martin show and also worked with all of the greats of the age, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.

His best known charts include "Bizet Has His Day" and "Mexican Hat Dance" - both arrangements by Ben Homer, Frank Comstock's fabulous chart of "The Nutcracker", Skippy Martin's arrangement of "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm", and his theme tune "Leap Frog". With Doris Day as his vocalist he recorded such tunes as "Sentimental Journey", "Celery Stalks at Midnight" and "Dig It".
