About Us / Arrangers / Bob Martin
Bob developed a keen interest in arranging while in high school where he was under the influence of a teriffic band director, Mr. John Shelton.
Shelton was more than a quality instructor, he provided guidance, inspiration and encouragement.
In addition to playing lead trumpet with the school jazz band, Bob fronted his own band at the age of fifteen, a five-piece group.
His collegiate years at the University of Mississippi provided many opportunities for arranging for the Ole Miss Marching Band as well as the Mississippians (jazz band), and the University Orchestra. Many of his arrangements were performed on nation-wide television.
As a music educator in public schools, Bob has arranged music for all levels of playing ability from beginners to Doc Severinson's Tonight Show Band. He has studied with numerous instructors including Johnny Richards, Sam Donahue and Ted Pease. Other influences include: Nat Pierce, Phil Wilson, Neal Hefti, Billy May, Johnny Keating, Bill Holman, Henry Mancini, Sy Oliver and Glenn Miller.
Bob's arrangements are noted for clarity of articulation, dynamics, rhythmic notation, and voicing.
Atlanta, Georgia is the home of Bob Martin's Take Note Big Band, The
Bob Martin Quartet and the Bob Martin Quintet.
